COVID-19 is in the news everywhere, and now that another Shelter in Place order is in effect we are continuing to closely monitor the situation. We’re reaching out to assure you that you are safe at Coliseum Dental Walnut Creek. There have been no new restrictions set in place for dental offices as we are an essential service. As always the safety of our patients and staff is our number one priority.
We already, as a daily practice, assure universal precautions as outlined by CDC and OSHA standards of infection control. Safety is always our number one focus. Our high standard of care ensures that your trust and safety are never compromised.
We are still taking extended measures to further protect all our patients and team with the following additional protocols:
- In compliance with the recommendations for public health, anyone with a cough or fever will not be allowed in the building and should stay home. We will be happy to reschedule your appointment for a later date
- Before your appointment, you have the option to stay in your car instead of the waiting room until we’re ready to seat you in your personal operatory. Simply call us when you arrive, and we will let you know when we’re ready for you.
- Upon entering Coliseum Dental Walnut Creek, you will be asked to sanitize your hands also your temperature and oxygen saturation levels will be taken before you are seen.
- At the beginning of every appointment, you will be asked to pre-rinse with OraCare or an Iodine rinse. OraCare Mouth Rinse and the Iodine rinse are proven to have anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.
- Additionally, we are requesting you sanitize your hands before re-entering the business areas. We are also sanitizing the waiting area multiple times per day.

Covid-19 Patients and Gum Disease Can Equal Serious Problems
Brushing your teeth regularly and maintaining proper oral care can play a big role in the fight against Covid-19. New research studies from Medical Xpress show that patients with gum disease are 9 times more likely to die from Covid-19, 3.5 times more likely to be admitted to intensive care and 4.5 times more likely to need a ventilator. In addition, coronavirus patients with poor gum health are at least 3 times more likely to experience complications, according to the study published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology. The results of the studies suggest that the inflammation in the oral cavity associated with gum disease may open the door to the coronavirus becoming more violent.
Bottom line: Do not neglect your oral health. We recommend that you contact our office to schedule your cleaning and exam if it has been longer than your normal recall schedule.
